MS 的embedded license有分成兩種模式，一種是走OEM，一種是走Volume Licensing，介紹如下：

• OEM: 當新的Device要出貨時、所有的devices都要先預安裝上OS。OS的license是不能轉移的。(適用的OS有: WE8S, WE 8.1 Pro, WE 8.1 Industry Pro and WE 8.1 Industry Pro Retail)
• Volume Licensing: 機器裡的OS必須已經安裝、當已出貨的OS系統需要升級為WE 8.1 Industry Pro、要安裝已被關閉的enterprise features在預先安裝OEM版本的embedded產品裡，像是WE8S and WE 8.1 Industry Pro)、要安裝Enterprise Sideloading在WE 8.1 Industry Pro和WE 8.1 Pro上。

要如何購買Windows Embedded 8 的License，方法如下：

• 1. 出貨的系統如果是WE8S，當然可以無償使用下列的功能像(Multi Touch, Multi-User Interface, Trustd Boot, Bitlocker, EEFs, IE10, App Launcher and Custom Branding等)，但要使用DirectAccess, BrancheCache, Enterprise Sideloading and AppLocaker等被disabled的功能，必須額外跟MS的EPG(Enterprise and Partner Group) team購買license。
• 2. 出貨的系統如果是WE 8.1 Industry Pro，也可以無償使用到上述的功能。如果想做到Enterprise sideloading，必須額外跟MS的EPG team購買license。
• 3. 出貨的系統如果是WE 8.1 Industry Pro，也可以無償使用到上述的功能。如果想做到增加Enterprise features等被關閉的功能(DirectAccess, BrancheCache, Enterprise Sideloading and AppLocaker)，必須額外跟MS的EPG team購買license。
